Adding a Fuel Filter

Just wondering if anyone else has added a fuel filter to their Savage, and if so, run into any problems. I have a 2000, and want to keep crud out of the carb. I'm both cheap and lazy (cheap=don't want to pay for carb-cleaning, lazy=don't want to do it myself).

So... I picked up some 5/16" fuel line & a metal automotive filter (skinny, about 1.5" long). Preserved the original fuel line (in case of troubles with the filter). Don't need to remove the tank, the line's exposed; cut new fuel-line pieces to match, clamp it on. Seems to run fine, even at highway speed. No fuel-flow problems. I suspect even a small auto engine requires a lot more gas than a Savage, so just about any auto filter should be fine.

As I mentioned, I'm wondering if anyone has done this, and run into a problem? Water accumulating in the filter and freezing is about the only drawback I can see, and it would probably freeze in the carb/tank anyway, without the filter.
